What is Coronavirus? Coronavirus is a family of disease-causing viruses (CoV). Some types of Coronaviruses include SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and the recently discovered COVID-19. The new pathogen is a variant of the SARS virus and affects both the upper and lower respiratory tract. The virus can cause pneumonia. People of all ages are affected, with men being affected slightly more often than women.

The pathogen infects cells of the lower respiratory tract in particular and can thus cause pneumonia. Some people infected with the pathogen only suffer from mild cold symptoms. Headaches or diarrhea are also possible. Fever does not always occur.

How can you protect yourself from infection?

To be able to protect yourself as well as possible from an infection with the new type of lung disease from China called COVID-19, you should know how it gets infected: the virus SARS-CoV-2 gets from person to person transfer. On the way to a droplet infection, for example, if you get coughed up. Is there a cure for Coronavirus?

So far, there are no antivirals that work against the disease, nor vaccination. The treatment of the disease is symptomatic. After the diagnosis, bed rest and intravenous fluids get administered in many cases. The health practitioner may administer cortisone preparations against inflammation and swelling. In severe cases, additional ventilation is necessary.
