Incumbent Republican Governor of Kentucky State Gov. Matt Bevin has requested the re-canvassing (careful reexamination) of the gubernatorial race in his State after his Democrat opponent Andy Beshear, won by an approximate 0.4% difference.

Alison Lundergan Grimes announced on Wednesday that his office will re-canvass

The Secretary of State for Kentucky Alison Lundergan Grimes announced on Wednesday that his office will re-canvass the Tuesday gubernatorial election

On her official Twitter page, she wrote “My office has received a re-canvass request from @GovMattBevin
The re-canvass will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 14th at 9:00 a.m.”

Re-canvassing does not necessarily mean recounting even though both re-canvassing and recounting will mean double-checking votes. Re-canvassing means reviewing the various electoral mechanisms in place to ensure that the votes are correct.

Beshear said Tuesday that he expected his opponent would “honor the election that was held.”  But Secretary of State Alison Grimes announced Bevin’s request on Twitter and said the re-canvass will take place next week.
