Excessive flooding is not a new phenomenon to the Douala inhabitants, but it becomes a problem when the city’s activities virtually come to a halt because of excess rain.
Friday, August 21st, 2020, was one of those days when residents either had to swim to work, pay for improvised transportation by makeshift canoes, or miss out on work entirely.Douala flood
Critics say lack of strategic town planning, the poor drainage system, and lethargic governance approaches are at the heart of the problem.
The Mayor’s tour ended with a reassuring message to the population that they and their belongings will be kept safe but warns that weather forecast predicts more rains, floods thus everyone should redouble vigilance.
