Fritz Von Weizsäcker who is one of the four children of the former President of Germany Richard Von Weizsäcker was stabbed to death. According to the police report, he was stabbed to death on Tuesday night. Fritz von Weizsäcker, who is a 59 years old is a medical doctor who specializes in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He was delivering a lecture on Tuesday at the Schlosspark-Klinik hospital in the West Berlin district of Charlottenburg -Germany where he was murdered. At about 7 p.m., a man loomed towards him and stabbed him with a knife. Efforts were made to save him but they were all futile.
The police officials arrested a suspect who is a 59 years old German. The police officer who was interviewing the suspect was also badly injured and was giving medical aid. The Police have put out an investigation of Fritz though the motives for such a brutal act is not yet certain. The suspect arrested will be facing trial in court on Wednesday.
Witnesses said the suspect sat on the front row of the lecture room as the deceased was addressing colleagues and patients. The attacker leaned towards him with a knife and repeatedly stabbed him to death.
Fritz Von Weizsäcker began his career as a resident at the University Medical Center at the University of Freiburg, and had studied and worked at a number of hospitals abroad including Harvard Medical School in Boston USA and the University Hospital of Zurich. He has been the of chief physician of the department of internal medicine at Schlosspark-Klinik since 2005.
His late father and former German President, Richard von Weizsäcker was president between 1984 and 1990. He was one of the most respected president of Germany, and was also in post during the fall of the Berlin Wall and Germany’s reunification.
He will always be remembered for his thoughtful speeches, not leaving out an address in 1985 when he warned against forgetting Germany’s past in a speech which marked the 40th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
