Taiwo Oyebola Agbona, The 23-year-old Girl Enthroned Queen In Nigeria.

The young medical student never imagined becoming a queen until the day when traditional chiefs came to see her after the death of her

father, leaving her as the successor to the throne.

“The chiefs consulted the oracle and were told that I am the elected one and that I deserve to be on the throne,” she told BBC Focus on

Africa.

The throne she was talking about is in the kingdom of Aaye, in the state of Ondo, in southwestern Nigeria.

The 23-year-old initially hesitated, saying that she needed three weeks to think about it.

“After the death of my father, the chiefs had consulted the oracle. They had been notified that I was the only one worthy of being on the

throne, ” she said.

“Then they came to ask me for my consent, but my only response was to give them time to think about it,” she added.

Eventually, she accepted the request.

This means that she will temporarily serve as queen until a male monarch is appointed.

“I ordered them to come back within three weeks to allow me to think about it. When they came back, I agreed, ”she says.

However, the conditions for exercising power require a lot of sacrifices.

“Right now, I can’t get married, let alone be pregnant as long as I stay on the throne,” she reveals.

Despite her young age, Taiwo Oyebola Agbona is not carried away by the mirage of power, authority, and respect for her subjects.

On the contrary, she says, “it encourages me to improve and since citizens regard me as a god, I have no right to make mistakes”.

After a year and a few months of practice, Taiwo Oyebola Agbona is already inspired by her father’s experience in conflict management.
