Arrested on September 25, 2019, in front of the Swiss Embassy in Yaounde, Abdul Karim spent close to 40 days behind bars without any concrete reason for his detention. Abdul Karim suspected by security forces of trafficking arms but dismissed such claims.

The vibrant Muslim scholar and fervent critic of the Yaounde regime give thanks to Allah on his facebook page a few minutes after his release from the State Gendarmerie Secretariat, SED. “Allahu Akbar…Dear Southern Cameroonians, God answered your prayers. Your servant is free. God bless you,” he writes. Family members confirm his release as they say he is back home.
Note that, his arrest comes after his appearance on a private TV station based in Douala, five days before the start of the Major National Dialogue that was announced by the head of state Paul Biya.
Followers and wellwishers have been celebrating his release, describing him as the son of the soil and true freedom fighter.
