It is recommended that to stay healthy, men up to age 70 should eat 64g of protein per day meanwhile women up to age 70 should eat 46g of protein unless she is pregnant or breastfeeding).
Surprising sources of protein
1. Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes contain both starch and proteins. Sweet potatoes, especially baked sweet potatoes contain 4 grams of protein per cup. Which is a healthy amount of protein for the body.
2. Pumpkin Seeds
These seeds at very known are equally loaded with a lot of proteins. The greens that grow from these seeds are often considered to be very crunchy and delicious.
3. Peas
This may surprise you, but compared to other vegetables, just a cup of green peas gives you about 8 grams of protein thereby showing that this is a great source of proteins.
4. Beans
Beans are a wonderful source of protein, ranging from 10-18 grams per cup cooked, depending on the type. Apart from being a great source of fiber, beans also are a great source of proteins. Diets that include beans may reduce your risk of heart disease and certain cancers.
5. Quinoa
A quarter-cup of cooked quinoa provides 5 grams of protein. It is good to note that, this is a seed that is commonly thought of as a grain, was originally cultivated by the Incas in South America but is gaining popularity worldwide
Other lesser-known protein sources include:
- Broccoli
- Avocados
- Spinach
- Brown rice
- Bulgur
- Oatmeal
- Cottage cheese
Aside from the normal sources of protein, we grew up knowing from primary school, the ones listed above are an addition to that. Make sure that a week doesn’t pass by that you have not eaten a protein-filled meal. It is very important for your health and body.
