Poor eyesight or what we commonly call (eye problems), is a very common thing in our society today and it affects both the young and the old. This rising rate of eye problems these days can be blamed on the excess use of mobile phones, less sleep, spending too much time on the TV, and long working hours on the machine.
One of the things that can affect eyesight to an extent is Malnutrition and undernutrition.
Foods that are high in antioxidants and vitamins play a key role in the health of your eyes. Regular exercise and a balanced diet are important for general well-being and protecting against many eye health conditions.
Below is a list of some fruits that are important for your eyes;
1.Berries
These fruits are made up of enough anti-inflammatory properties which provide support to the blood vessels of the eyes. The Anthocyanins nutrients found in it prevent arteries of the retina from being blocked.
Many different fruits make up the berries family. That is; Strawberries, cranberries, blackberries, and blueberries. These fruits are made up of antioxidants that help to prevent eye dryness, vision defects, and lower blood pressure.
2.Bananas
If you suffer from eye dryness, bananas are very good for you because they contain potassium and they equally help to maintain film thickness. Vitamins A are very important for eyes health and it is equally found in this fruit. The cornea is very essential for good vision and this is gotten from vitamin A which Banana contains.
3.Papaya
This is a full nutrient fruit that is loaded with nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and enzymes which help support healthy eyes. Papaya is a wonder food that spells overall welfare for your eyes. The nutrients found in this fruit helps to absorb excess light that is coming into the retina, it equally protects the eye from harmful blue light.
4.Citrus fruits
Oranges, lemons, and grapefruit are rich in vitamin C and each of them falls under the family of citrus fruits. Citrus fruits may also help with age-related vision problems like cataracts. They support the health of blood vessels in the eye.
5.Mango
Mango is filled with vitamin A, an antioxidant that wards off bacteria and infections from the surface of the eye. Shortage of vitamin A in your system will cause dryness, which can cause risk for general eye health
6.Apricot
This fruit is particularly beneficial to eye health because it is stocked up with beta-carotene, which delays aging of the eyes. Apricots also contain many other nutrients like zinc, copper, vitamin A, C, E, and carotenoids which work together to beat degeneration
Adding these fruits to your diet will help you keep your eyes healthy, but it is equally important to go for regular eye examinations with your ophthalmologist to detect any underlying eye problems.
