50 years of age is not 5o days, meaning hitting the age of 50 is a major milestone in any woman’s life.

Most women at this age begin to feel old and tired. This is because they have not been living a great healthy life style. But it is not a problem, you can still start your healthy life style at this age.

To feel strong and healthy at this age, you need to make some little changes to your lifestyle.

Below are some tips on how to improve your health as from the age of 50.

1. Exercise Daily

Exercising is very important for everyone. At this age 50 and above you cannot exercise like a 15 year old girl, so do exercises that won’t break you down.

Simply exercising for 30 minutes every day is good for your health. That is, exercising will, improve your circulation and muscle tone, it will also, boost your mood, energy levels, it also reduces heart disease risk and sleeping rate.

Exercising will give you strong bone and stamina. You must not run long distances, for your age, you can engage yourself into jogging and aerobic exercise (simply walking) for some distances every day. Take up yoga. Yoga is a great stretching exercise which enhances flexibility.

2. Stay Hydrated

In as much as water is very important, it is very very beneficial for women above 50.

That is, women above the ages of 50 are advised to drink water and stay hydrated all the time. This is because, water flushes out toxins from the body, lubricates the joints, eases digestion and promotes the growth and production of healthy cells.

Staying hydrated is has a lot of advantages, so do not take it lightly.

3. Make Sure You Get Enough Sleep

Some women from the ages of 50 and above experience sleep apnea and sleep disorder. This can be linked to the fact that, after menopause, women have hormonal changes which can lead to sleep disorders.

If you have difficulties sleeping, force it. Look for different ways that will make you sleep. Sleep is very important for you.  Sleep will help boost your moral and spirit.

4. See your doctor at least once a year.

If you are above 50 and still sexually active, then it is good to check yourself. Do tests for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis yearly. Equally do the Pap test and HPV test every 5 years.

If you have problems sleeping, talk to a healthcare professional to get to the root of the issue. This is because untreated sleep amnesia at this age can lead to increased blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

5. Avoid stress

Stress is not a friend to anybody because it can seriously affect your health. Therefore, at this age it is advisable to avoid stress at all cost.

Have fun, do things that will keep your mind free and happy. You can play with children, dance, read, watch a movie. Just do what will make you happy.

6. Consume Heart-Healthy Food

Some women above 80 die because of heart diseases. So at this age, taking care of your hearts health is very important and should be one of your top priorities.

Add heart healthy foods to your daily diets. Eat more vegetables, whole grains, fruits, avocados, fish etc. It will help keep your cardiovascular system in good condition and prevent heart disease.

7. Add More Calcium to Your Diet

Menopause is an inevitable part of the woman’s life. This stage in life, comes with diminishing bone density and strength.

To fight this and keep your bone strength in fact, it is advisable to increase your calcium intake. This will help make your bones stronger.

Before taking calcium meet your doctor so that he can prescribe calcium for you.

It advisable o get at least 1,200 milligrams of calcium daily.

  • If you smoke, then quit smoking
  • Get regular preventive screening (cancer screenings, Colon screening)
  • Avoid alcohol
