Over the past decade or so, smartphones and cell phones have become an extended part of the self. In many countries, over half of the population uses mobile phones and the mobile phone market is growing rapidly. The easiest form of technology that nowadays is accessible to everyone is a smartphone. Rarely you can find someone who is living without owning a smartphone. Even kids are now so fascinated by the digital world that before turning even 5 years of age they have their smartphones. With the addiction that some people have to their phones today, most fail to understand that, mobile phones emit radiofrequency energy, a form of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation, which can be absorbed by tissues close to the phone.
According to scientists, when you are addicted to your smartphone you are likely to have changes in brain activity, reaction times, and sleep patterns.
Health effects of the Mobile phones
1. Affects sleeping pattern
Some people are addicted to their phones in such a way that even sleeping is hard for them because they want to keep scrolling through their smartphones. When you start watching videos or texting you might not even notice time passing and you end up sleeping very late.
2. Can cause anxiety
Everything on the phone has an alert, be it a call, a text, a tweet, or an email just to name a few. With a constant influx of messages entering your phone and getting your attention, it can put pressure on you to have your phone and reply to each message as fast as possible. Just being under this pressure can cause you to get anxious.
3. Increases the chances of road accidents
Many people today move on the road focused on their phones watching movies, and videos, texting and looking at pictures not minding the fact that they are on the road and something can happen at any time. This is the cause of some accidents today. Equally even some drivers today tend to be trying to answer a call or reply to a text while on the staring. Which is a danger to them and even those around them at that moment.
4. Damages the eyes
Some people are on their phones 24/7 before they sleep they look at the phone, and even sleep off while using the phone, then immediately they wake up it’s still the phone they want to use. Staying too long on the screen is bad for your eyes and so it is advisable to keep your phone away 30 minutes before bedtime. Then when you wake up let it not be the first thing you look for. In case you can not stay away from the screen, then get some glasses that will protect your eyes.
Note that, being on a call for long is not good for the ear and so doctors and researchers advise that, when a call comes in, it is preferable to put the phone on loudspeaker and talk.
Do not be addicted to the phone because it can affect your health in many different ways. Above are just 4 ways phones can affect you. Be disciplined on how you use these devices, they are good but bad at the same time when you abuse them.
