Former UN secretary general Nikki Haley beliefs that Trump does not deserve to be impeached, and John Kelly’s response
The former US ambassador and a one time Republican Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley wrote a book which she details her time in the Trump White House. In this book she claims that she was recruited by both White House chief of staff John Kelly and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to subvert the wishes of President Donald Trump
In this book, Haley described her closed door encounter between John Kelly and Rex Tillerson and how Tillerson went further to say that ‘’the reason he resisted the president is because if he didn’t do so people would die’’. She told CBS that ‘’Kelly and Tillerson confided in me that when they resisted the President they weren’t being insubordinate, they were trying to save the country…’’ She further explained that instead of saying that to her, they should have told the president and not ask her to join in on their plan, or better still they should have quit if they didn’t agree with what he was doing.
She also explain in her book that she does not think the president deserves to be impeached. She says you can’t impeach ‘’the president for asking for a favor that didn’t happen.’’ And giving money that wasn’t withheld? To her, Impeachment ‘’is like a death penalty and there’s nothing in the transcript that warrants a death penalty’’ even though there are overwhelming evidence to impeach the president based on corruption and the abuse of power.
Haley also told CBS that to undermine the president would be a dangerous thing to do as it goes against what the American people want and it was offensive.
When John Kelly was confronted about these accusations, he says according to The Washington Post that if providing the President ‘’with the best and most open, legal and ethical staffing advice from across the government so he could make an informed decision is ‘working against Trump ‘then guilty as charged.’’
