Arrested in Paraguay for using false passports, former football star Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto are behind bars, and are going to stay there, their preventive detention has been confirmed.

No release for Ronaldinho.

The pretrial detention of the football legend and his brother, arrested in Paraguay for using false passports, was confirmed on Saturday March 7,2020 by a judge from Asuncion, the day after their first night spent

behind bars.

Ronaldinho and his brother, Roberto Assis, arrived Wednesday, March 4 in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, to promote the book of “Roni” and participate in charity galas.

An investigation was immediately opened against the former legend of PSG and FC Barcelona for using false passports and illegal entry into the country.

“A serious act which threatens the State”

Heard by the prosecution on Thursday, March 5, the 39-year-old Brazilian footballer and his brother were sent to prison on Friday evening.

Initially, the dropping of charges against the former international Seleçao had been requested by the prosecutor initially responsible for the case, Federico Delfino, but the latter had been replaced (…)

On Saturday, Paraguayan authorities announced they would keep the legendary player and his brother in prison, for the use of the fake documents.

They were initially detained in the Resort Yacht & Golf Club Paraguayo, the Ministry of Interior of Paraguay confirmed.
“The Attorney General’s office issued a warrant for their arrest, charged the player Ronaldinho with using a public document with false content and requested preventative detention,” an official tweet read.
Messi hires lawyers to defend Ronaldinho

According to SportingLife, Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is reportedly set to do his bit to get former team-mate Ronaldinho out of prison.

The report reveals that the Brazilian legend has been in police custody following a case of alleged passport fraud as he tried to get into Paraguay with a fake passport.

According to TeamTalk and various other sources today, Messi is now ready to try to help Ronaldinho by hiring a team of lawyers and paying as much as €4million to get the retired star out of prison.
