It was in the university zone that the disaster started on Friday evening, before spreading to the popular Haoussa quarter, generating abundant smoke which required the evacuation of several buildings.

It was smoke that alerted on Friday, December 27, shortly before 8:30 p.m., in a building in the university area of Dschang West Region of Cameroon before spreading to the Haoussa quarter. The occupants only had time to escape from the flames that were spreading at a rapid speed.
Even before the flames were brought under control, evacuation started, as some 7 houses were affected. Fortunately, not all of them were busy during this holiday season. While there, a second attempt is carried out through the throwing of sand.

Another block of the building in the same quarter had just been caught in the fire an hour ago at the “Rond point Djoumessi Mathias”. The inhabitants once again got nothing from their property. Only the sleeping children were taken out in extremis before the flames ignited the building. Some occupants, like the students living there, were absent. They only had their eyes to cry when they got there.

Too much fire arouses anger in populations. They say they are abandoned to themselves, therefore being daily exposed to possible risks without being able to count on the intervention of firefighters, as the only base that exists so far in the region is only that of Bafoussam.
However, in 2017, the government announced the opening of a fire fighting department in Dschang West Region of  Cameroon. 3 years later… Nothing has been done!
