What can I Make with Pantry Items?
With the Coronavirus putting a large part of the world on lockdown, figuring out which food to prepare for dinner might be a bit of a challenge. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be! Below is a list of easy, delicious meals that you can make using items you already have in your pantry.
- Beans and Rice: this traditional food has been a staple for decades! It doesn’t have to be boring. Add in some spices such as chili powder or cumin and you’ve got yourself a delicious meal that even your kids will love! Toss in some canned tomatoes and corn, top with salsa or tomato sauce and sprinkle on some cheese. The possibilities are endless!
- Tuna Sandwiches: Tuna is often found in the majority of pantries and using some up is a great idea during the coronavirus lockdown! Tuna sandwiches can be spiced up with some melted cheese or you can abandon the bread and make a tuna macaroni salad with noodles, peas and some celery if you have it.
- Vegetarian chili: If meat is scarce but your kids love chili you can whip up a batch of vegetarian chili. Beans are full of protein so you won’t even miss the rice. Just open a few kinds of baking beans (kidney, black and baked beans all work well), mix in some cans of diced tomatos and a can of crushed tomatoes and you’re well on your way! With a bit of sugar and chili powder and a dash of Worcestershire sauce you’ve got a yummy meal the whole family will love!
- Salmon sandwiches: While tuna is the pantry fish that most people have, chances are you have a can or two of Salmon in the back of your pantry too! Whip up some delicious salmon sandwiches for a nutritious meal loaded with Omega 3’s.
It can be tough to come up with meal ideas when you’re family is in lockdown but give one of these a try and you might just find a new family favorite!
