What can I Make with Pantry Items?

With the Coronavirus putting a large part of the world on lockdown, figuring out which food to prepare for dinner might be a bit of a challenge. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be! Below is a list of easy, delicious meals that you can make using items you already have in your pantry.

  1. Beans and Rice: this traditional food has been a staple for decades! It doesn’t have to be boring. Add in some spices such as chili powder or cumin and you’ve got yourself a delicious meal that even your kids will love! Toss in some canned tomatoes and corn, top with salsa or tomato sauce and sprinkle on some cheese. The possibilities are endless!

  1. Tuna Sandwiches: Tuna is often found in the majority of pantries and using some up is a great idea during the coronavirus lockdown! Tuna sandwiches can be spiced up with some melted cheese or you can abandon the bread and make a tuna macaroni salad with noodles, peas and some celery if you have it.

  1. Vegetarian chili: If meat is scarce but your kids love chili you can whip up a batch of vegetarian chili. Beans are full of protein so you won’t even miss the rice. Just open a few kinds of baking beans (kidney, black and baked beans all work well), mix in some cans of diced tomatos and a can of crushed tomatoes and you’re well on your way! With a bit of sugar and chili powder and a dash of Worcestershire sauce you’ve got a yummy meal the whole family will love!

  1. Salmon sandwiches: While tuna is the pantry fish that most people have, chances are you have a can or two of Salmon in the back of your pantry too! Whip up some delicious salmon sandwiches for a nutritious meal loaded with Omega 3’s.
