According to a press release by the Minister of Public Health, two patients have been tested and confirmed with the coronavirus.

Two cases of the new coronavirus have been confirmed in Cameroon, the Minister of Health announced on Friday. The first is a Frenchman who arrived Cameroon of February 24, 2020, and the second a Cameroonian who has been in contact with the Frenchman.

A second patient was tested positive for coronavirus, Friday March 6, 2020 according to a press release from the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie.

The Government member states that ” she is a Cameroonian citizen who was in close contact with the first confirmed subject ” in the Center region.

“The Minister of Public Health announces the confirmation of a case of Covid-19 (coronavirus) on Cameroonian territory”, had written the minister, Dr. Malachie Manaouda, in a first press release published in the morning.

The first carrier of the virus is “a French citizen, 58 years old, arrived in Yaoundé on February 24”, he specified, a few hours before the publication of a second press release announcing a “second case”, “a Cameroonian citizen who was in close contact with the first confirmed subject. ”

On March 1, 2020, Mr. Mark Lowcock, UN Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, has allocated the sum of US $ 15 million Central Fund for Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to help fund containment efforts of Covid -19 worldwide.

Few days after the U.N announcement, Cameroon has recorded two cases of the deadly coronavirus.

The two patients has been placed “in isolation in a care center”, of the Yaounde Central Hospital.

“In Cameroon, the laboratory at the Pasteur center has tools and capacities for rapid diagnosis of cases,” Clavère Nken, communication manager at the Ministry of Health, told AFP in February.

Cameroon, a country with a population of more than 27 million inhabitants is the first country to announce cases of coronavirus in Central Africa.
