Chadian government says there is ”no longer a single element of Boko Haram on Chadian territory”.
Spokesman to the Chadian government told AFP on monday that there is “no longer a single Boko Haram element on Chadian territory”.
This was a message the spokesman confirmed from the Chadian president Idriss Deby Itno.
The message came in less than two weeks after the Chadian militory force launched an affensive attack against the jihadist Boko Haram group.
This weekend from the Lac province the Chadian president Idriss Deby declared “across the island region, there is not a single jihadist.”
It was at the Lac province that the president led a response against the Boko Haram after they attacked and killed some Chadian soldiers on the Bohoma peninsular.
The Chadian government did not give any report and statistics of the soldiers deployed against Boko Haram nor on the number of Boko Haram killed or captured.
The Chadian minister of the commission and government spokesman,Oumar Yaya Hissei said “We are in the process of cross-checking information from different operating sites before giving an assessment.”
According to Idriss Deby, the jihadist Boko Haram must have left Chad to either Cameroon, Niger, or Nigeria.
Idriss Deby expressed his frustration with his neighbours Cameroon, Niger, and Nigeria with whom Chad has been fighting Boko Haram in a Multinational Joint Force since 2015.
“Chad alone is able to bear the brunt of the war against Boko Haram (…) I met the FMM commander and asked him to take over,” Idriss Deby commented.
According to the International Crisis Group(ICG0, despite the triumphant tone of the Chadian government, the fight against Boko Haram is “far from over”.
