At 83 Bernadette Lukoki is  still teaches in a primary school class in Kinshasa Democratic Republic of Congo .
After 66 years in the service of children, she admits of having enough and demands for her retirement benefits to finally leave the National Education. The legal retirement age for civil servants, including teachers, is set at 65 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, yet many older teachers leave the chalk in their old age.
A situation which according to Syndicates and Associations, harms the quality of education in the country. It would have been necessary for “TV5 Monde” to report on her so that she would obtain this recognition. Bernadette Lukoki was received by Congo’s Vice-Minister of Education.
She can now take her well-deserved retirement.
