Minister Delegate of Defense announces the arrest of soldier who shot a man in a hospital in Bamenda

In a press release  the National television, CRTV on February 19, 2020 , Joseph Béti Assomo minister delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense announces the arrest of a soldier.

Indeed, the latter opened fire on two individuals in a hospital in Bamenda.

The drama occurred very early yesterday in Bamenda

“Indeed, arrested by a patrol from air base 501, which was precisely tracking a group of secessionist terrorists, the Toyota brand Tercel type vehicle registered NO 366AB fled after refusing to comply, forcing the patrol

to launch in pursuit, “said the press release.

Statement according to MINDEF

It is learnt that the victims took refuge in the above hospital, where they were shot.

“… The suspected vehicle  changed course despite the usual warnings, before attempting a hideout in the parking lot of Saint Mary Catholic Hospital, the place precisely where a soldier opened fire in violation of the

rules of engagement”, specifies the press release from MINDEF.

The driver of the vehicle, a certain Fuh Augustine, born on February 1, 1971 in Bafut, was fatally injured.

The second occupant of the car, Fruh Romanus, was “shot in the left leg two weeks ago on the Mbengwi-Bamenda axis during a confrontation with the defense and security forces.

The result was an amputation of the said leg at the Saint Mary Catholic Hospital where the latter received care as an outpatient, ”reads.

Soldier’s arrest

The Minister of Defense informs that the “soldier who shot was immediately arrested and detained at the gendarmerie company in Bamenda.

They have ordered an open investigation immediately, and the result of the findings will be made public in the days ahead.

It is recalled that this is not the first time a soldier is shooting an innocent or suspected civilian without any evidence.

And in most cases the soldiers go free without any justice done on them.
