The National Gendarmerie of Cameroon affirms that the gendarme indexed in a suspected attack against Maurice Kamto in Garoua “was only doing his duty and at no time had any malicious intentions”

The national gendarmerie has just published a denial about the involvement of a gendarme in a supposed attack against the procession of Maurice Kamto in Garoua, Friday March 13, 2020.

While he was going to Garoua, in the North, to meet his militants, the president of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon was the target of an assassination attempt, according to the militants of this political party.

The latter implicate a gendarme who would have infiltrated the procession of Maurice Kamto, before being mastered.

These Gendarmerie personnel, deployed in civilian clothes as part of a conventional intelligence mission, were carrying a service weapon under the conditions provided for by the regulations, states the Gendarmerie Nationale.

Read the disclaimer:

“Videos and images, circulating in social networks since March 13, 2020, depict odious acts of aggression by a non-commissioned officer of the Gendarmerie, on the false grounds that he would have tried to assassinate the President of the MRC , during its passage to Garoua.

This Gendarmerie personnel, deployed in civilian clothes as part of a conventional information mission, was carrying a service weapon under the conditions provided for by the regulations.

He was only doing his duty and never had malicious intentions.

The National Gendarmerie condemns these acts of unacceptable violence against one of its personnel.

The National Gendarmerie, republican and citizen, will continue to fulfill its missions with professionalism for the benefit of the populations, in the respect of the laws of the Republic.

An investigation was opened by the Legion of the Gendarmerie du Nord to establish the responsibilities of each other ”.
