2019 Ballon d’Or: Habib Beye: “Mané is 4th because he is African”
Sadio Mané’s 4th place at the 2019 Ballon d’Or is making a lot of noise.
Many voices have risen to stand against the ranking of Senegalese player, author of an exceptional year and who could at least aim for the podium.
Among these voices, we find that of the Canal + consultant, Habib Beye, who pushed a huge rant in the show “Talent d’Afrique”.
“We will start again from what is beign said. Maybe people will see this as an act of victimization.
He is African. And that’s why he’s 4th. You can turn it in all directions, that’s why he is 4th,” said the former OM player “Can we judge that Messi is the best player in history? Yes.
Can we judge that Messi is the best player in the world right now? Yes.
Can we judge that he had the best season in 2019? No. …) Messi sank in the Champions League semifinals at Anfield. Meanwhile, Sadio Mané and the others went to the Champions League final, winning the Champions League.
See Sadio Mané being at the 4th position in the Ballon d’Or, I tell you, it’s a scandal, let it be clear and simple.”
Beye took the opportunity to talk about the Liverpool coach, Jürgen Klopp, who had preferred to publicly support Virgil van Dijk rather than Mané in the Ballon d’Or race. “Yes, I am Senegalese,
I supported Sadio Mané. But at some point, you have to be pragmatic and honest in what you say.
Today, the one who tells me that Virgil van Dijk had a better season than Sadio Mané, let him give me the criteria, let him come and discuss with me.
And we debate, there is no problem,” concluded the Franco-Senegalese, pissed off.
